European SQLAdria Seminar – Virtual Event 2021 Db2 Analytics Accelerator – Driving for Optimum Performance

In this presentation, we present techniques to improve the Accelerator performance, incl. defining and maintaining distribution and organizing keys (synopsis tables), and to define a set of rules for the Db2 for z/OS optimizer via heuristic routing criteria by setting the maximum total table cardinality, the maximum estimated total cost, and the maximum number of rows for the result set of a query. We furthermore explore profile table setting in Db2 for z/OS to control access to the Accelerator by specifying the CURRENT QUERY ACCELERATION register value for remote applications that meet the criteria that are defined in the corresponding Db2 for z/OS profile tables. In addition, we review efficient zParm settings in coexistence environments with the Accelerator v5 and v7, and review enhancements with Accelerator-only Tables (AOTs) in HA/DR environments.

European SQLAdria Seminar – Virtual Event Readily integrate real‐time fraud detection with Watson ML for z/OS

Detecting fraud within payment systems is one of the top challenges for many IT organizations. Integrating fraud detection applications with payment systems can be complex. IBM and TAS/Mantica have just simplified this effort. IBM has partnered with TAS/Mantica to bring together the power of their Adaptive Intelligence Platform and Fraud Protection Solution with IBM Watson Machine Learning for z/OS. This helps organizations monitor and detect payment fraud in real-time, before a transaction completes, with rel-time scoring via Watson ML for z/OS. This presentation describes how to apply this ML use case for real-time scoring to your payment process.

European SQLAdria Seminar – Šibenik 2017 The Data Lake with DB2 for z/OS and the DB2 Analytics Accelerator

The data lake is a solution for a system of insight that has gained strong momentum with clients. This presentation describes the deployment of a data lake in the context of z Systems analytics. Data lakes are usually associated with offloading large data volumes to an open source platform. We present DB2 for z/OS and the DB2 Analytics Accelerator deployment options with the data lake, and illustrate how the DB2 Analytics Accelerator enables more choices for making DB2 for z/OS and other z Systems data available for analytics while keeping z Systems within the analytics lifecycle. This limits data movement and performs analytics close to where the data originates and resides.

Use Cases at the Intersection of Apache Spark/Hadoop and IBM z Analytics
Abstract: This presentation provides insight into sample integration points and use case scenarios that are derived from client engagements. We highlight integration options between DB2 for z/OS and the DB2 Analytics Accelerator with IBM BigInsights for Apache Hadoop and Spark. We demonstrate how to complement traditional z Analytics with Big Data analytics, e.g. by using SQL on open source (Big SQL and Spark SQL) and text analytics, and describe the integration of key Spark components into a z Analytics environment with DB2 for z/OS. We introduce opportunities for data scientists, application developers, and business analytics leaders as we reveal how the z Systems analytics portfolio is leveraging and integrating open source technology now.

SQLAdria Seminar – Opatija 2016 Operational Analytics with optimized Common Data Provider (CDP) and the DB2 Analytics Accelerator

The new IBM Common Data Provider (CDP) for z Systems, V1.1 provides for optimized integration with the DB2 Analytics Accelerator. The CDP can provide access to z/OS operational SMF log data in batch mode or in near-real-time streaming mode; it has been optimized for transforming and loading SMF log records directly into the Accelerator with DB2 for z/OS just containing schema definition (no SMF log data itself). This enables significant faster report generation via Tivoli Decision Support (TDS) for increased business agility. This presentation describes the architecture of this integrated IT operational analytics solution.

European SQLAdria Seminar – Dubrovnik 2015 Real-Time z Analytics by leveraging the Hadoop Ecosystem

Content: Starting with an explanation of Big Data and the Apache Hadoop ecosystem with key components and initiatives, complementing z Analytics by using Big Data analytics and Natural Language Processing (NLP), integration of BigInsights with z Systems, customer use case scenarios, keeping DB2 for z/OS as control point for real-time z Analytics with SPSS.

Abstract: During the past decade, the Apache Hadoop open source community has developed an impressive set of products and tools that represent an important aspect of Big Data. In the beginning, we will explain the term Big Data and its relationship to the Hadoop ecosystem. We will furthermore illustrate how to complement existing 'traditional' DB2 for z/OS based analytical capabilities with Big Data analytics, e.g. by using text analytics and Natural Language Processing (NLP) as part of IBM InfoSphere BigInsights. This leverages key Hadoop components (MapReduce programming model, HDFS, HBase, Zookeeper, etc.) to analyze data from Enterprise-owned systems of engagement (e.g. call center transcripts, e-mail traffic, Facebook), and data from external social media sites (e.g. Twitter tweeds, Facebook sites, Blogs) and putting this in context with transaction insight from data on IBM z Systems. We will provide examples on how Hadoop systems - by using HBase and Hive with corresponding connectors to existing z Systems – and Big SQL on HDFS and Hive will enrich analytical insight. We will describe the IBM SPSS Modeler Server Scoring Adapter for DB2 on z/OS that embeds scoring algorithms directly into IBM DB2 for z/OS transactional data, which enables the real-time scoring of new transactional data as it is created.

SQLAdria Seminar – Ljubljana 2015 Hybrid Transactional/Analytical Processing (HTAP) Workloads on z Systems
Content: Delivering HTAP - a single workload-optimized system that integrates operations and business critical analytics into one streamlined system

Abstract: This presentation will describe the Hybrid Transactional/Analytical Processing (HTAP) concept that enables the execution of true mixed workloads, meaning high volume business transactions and batch workloads running concurrently with complex queries. HTAP solves the issue of analytical latency in multiple ways, specifically by eliminating the need for multiple copies of the same or modified / aggregated data and the requirement for data to be off-loaded from transactional systems of record to systems of insight. In this presentation, we will describe today's capabilities with the IBM DB2 Analytics Accelerator and future trends.

SQLAdria Seminar – Ljubljana 2015 Real-Time z Analytics
Content: IBM DB2 Analytics Accelerator as an enabler for an Operational Data Store (ODS) on z Systems, low-latency replication scenarios, operational analytics for fraud prevention

Abstract: Transactional processing has been the primary processing paradigm on z Systems for years. With the IBM DB2 Analytics Accelerator, z Systems and specifically DB2 for z/OS clients can broaden the processing scope to include Analytics - even with low latency. This presentation will introduce the key technical aspects of the Accelerator, and how it can be used for real-time / low latency analytics on z Systems. This includes implementations of Operational Data Stores (ODS) for operational analytics for instance for fraud discovery and prevention. In addition, we will describe the IBM SPSS Modeler Server Scoring Adapter for DB2 on z/OS that embeds scoring algorithms directly into IBM DB2 for z/OS transactional data, which enables the real-time scoring of new transactional data as it is created.
