European SQLAdria Seminar – Šibenik 2017 Power of db2pd - Monitor and Troubleshoot Your World

The db2pd command is a powerful tool for monitoring and administering DB2 Linux, UNIX and Windows databases and instances. You can use this tool to keep track of transactions, table spaces, table statistics, dynamic SQL, configuration settings and much, much more.<br />Melanie will compare using SQL statements versus db2pd commands for troubleshooting, problem determination, performance tuning, environment analysis and more.

14 June 2017
11:30 - 12:30
European SQLAdria Seminar – Šibenik 2017 Materialized Query Tables - Deep Dive

Materialized Query Tables (MQTs) are widely used to significantly speed up the response time of decision support queries. A MQT is a table whose definition is based on the result of a query and whose data is in the form of precomputed results. Learn how to deploy MQTs. Through examples, learn steps necessary to create, maintain and use MQTs. MQT maintenance and trade-offs associated with various approaches will be analyzed. Learn about MQT matching, which is the process DB2 uses to transparently answer queries against base tables using precomputed query results stored in MQTs. Advanced uses and the benefits of MQTs with advanced query optimization techniques will be discussed.

13 June 2017
15:00 - 16:00
European SQLAdria Seminar – Šibenik 2017 DB2 Memory Management -- Have You Lost Your Memory?

Dig into the nuts and bolts of Memory Management.  Melanie will describe the details of management of instance-level memory, database-level shared memory and application memory for DB2 databases. Automated Memory Management using Self Tuning Memory Manager will also be addressed. The configuration and use of each memory heap will be described. The monitoring of memory usage using SQL statements, db2mtrk and db2pd command reports will be presented.

European SQLAdria Seminar – Dubrovnik 2014 DB2 10.5 for LUW with BLU Acceleration and New Features

This one-day class is designed to describe the major technical features and enhancements provided by DB2 for Linux, UNIX and Windows database 10.5 software. A key feature of DB2 LUW 10.5 is new support for column-organized tables to provide accelerated analytic processing called BLU Acceleration. Additional new features in DB2 LUW 10.5 will also be covered.
After completing this class, you should be able to:
• Implement column-organized table support for a new or existing DB2 database
• Describe how the column dictionaries used to provide extreme compression of column-organized tables are built and utilized
• Explain the impact of setting the DB2 registry variable DB2_WORKLOAD to ANALYTICS
• List the seven ‘big ideas’ that work together to provide DB2 BLU acceleration
• Describe the different storage used for column-organized table compared to row-organized tables
• Explain how DB2 uses a synopsis table to support data skipping with column-organized tables
• Monitor a DB2 database or application that uses column-organized tables
• Use db2convert or ADMIN_MOVE_TABLE to convert row-organized tables to column-organized tables
• Explain the support for large row sizes with DB2 10.5
• Use DB2 Version 10.5 create an index that contains an expression-based key
• Monitor DB2 10.5 databases and instances using SQL table functions MON_GET_DATABASE and MON_GET_INSTANCE
• Recovery enhancements will also be discussed.
